Display technology is moving fast. Consumers and businesses are turning to 4K monitors in increasing numbers, and now, since their demonstration at the CES in January, OLED screens and laptops have been identified as the next big development that could take the place of LCD technology in computer monitors, TVs and mobile devices. Compared to existing LCD technology, OLED screens, which work without a backlight, are thinner, brighter and more energy efficient.
One of the most exciting OLED products to launch in Las Vegas last month was the latest member of Dell’s UltraSharp range, the 30” UP3017Q, an UltraHD 4K display that will retail at $4,999 when it’s released in March. Some will balk at the idea of paying so much for a monitor, but the cost of OLED screens will come down as production and demand increase. To provide security and protection against theft, many of the latest screens come with a Kensington Security Slot. Here are some of the best 4K displays currently available, all of which can be secured with a Kensington lock.
Dell UltraSharp 30 UP3017Q
Due for release in March 2016, Dell’s UP3017Q has already set tongues wagging. The OLED UltraHD 4K panel covers 100% of the Adobe RGB color space, as well 97.8% of the DCI-P3 color space used for cinema. To compensate for OLED’s shorter lifespan, Dell have designed a “presence” sensor that automatically switches of the display when you’re not using it. It’s also one of the latest displays to incorporate USB-C for its power delivery, which will allow users to power their device and run the display using a single cable.
