Best for Windows: Dell XPS 15

The ubiquitous solution for business computing, Windows has consistently been the OS of choice for most industries. However that popularity hasn’t recently been matched by a laptop that offered the perfect balance of looks and power. With the Dell XPS 15, the follow up to the 13-inch XPS, we see a high-powered workhorse that’s ideal for professional users.

Crafted with a sleek edge-to-edge design that can be upgraded to a stunning 4k, this laptop’s virtually borderless screen is ideal for graphics work.

  • Usability:

Equipped with a 6th generation Intel Core i7 processor, the XPS 15 has enough power to use graphically intensive apps whilst you’re on the go. In addition to raw power, the computer is equipped with HDMI, USB, and USB-C (which doubles as Thunderbolt 3), making it a great option for business users looking for an all in one solution. The addition of Type C is perfect for future proofing the device, which considering the premium cost is an absolute must.

  • Design:

At 38.1 cm, this is the smallest 15-inch laptop available. Constructed with an aluminium finish and wedge shape that measures in at only 11-17mm, it weighs just under 1.8kg, making it the lightest performance-class laptop on the market and ideal for on-the-go working. Employees working with this device are equipped for travel between business meetings and flexible working as the size and weight enhances portability.

Best for Chrome OS: Toshiba Chromebook 2

For a second device that’s perfect for using Google apps on the go, the Chromebook is your go-to option. There are two viable options here: you can either opt for Google’s own Pixel laptop or the Toshiba Chromebook 2, which strikes a great balance between cost and usability.

  • Display:

The Chromebook 2 has a 13.3-inch, 1080p screen that gives you enough room to do your work with ease. Vivid and accurate colours, a crisp display and good viewing angles belie this laptop’s cheaper cost.

  • Usability:

Toshiba have loaded this machine with 4GB of RAM and an Intel Celeron processor – this isn’t enough power to do any real heavy lifting, but it’s all you’ll need to get work done when you’re out of the office. The machine carries an HDMI port and a USB 3.0 port for high-speed data transfer, giving this design a lot more versatility than you’d expect from a low-end laptop.

  • Design:

Best for OSX: MacBook Air

Because of the constraints of the OS, Macs sometimes are dismissed for business use. However if you’re looking for a laptop that offers the perfect balance of power, portability and battery then the MacBook Air might be the right computer for you.

  • Display:

In comparison to the heftier MacBook Pro’s retina display, the Air’s screen seems a little lacklustre, but in return it offers 12 hours of battery life and up to 30 days of standby time.

Apple are known for their excellent design and the MacBook Air is no exception. Crafted from the company’s iconic brushed aluminium, the unibody design is an incredibly thin 1.7cms and it weighs only 1.08 kilos – ideal for slipping into your bag and taking with you anywhere you go.
